Game Overview
In Leah's Ark, a doctor-themed phygital game for kids aged 4-8, players join Leah, a snow leopard learning to be a doctor, on a journey to help sick baby animals in the jungle. The game uniquely combines digital gameplay with physical, toy-like medical instruments that players place on the screen, making the experience interactive and hands-on.
Tools used:
Design Approach
-
Character Selection: Large, interactive character cards make the choices clear and engaging for children. Each card shows unique characters with distinctive personalities, creating an emotional connection.
-
Background & Navigation: The background, featuring a soft pirate ship illustration, reinforces the adventure theme and aligns with the stage-based progression. Simple navigation arrows and stage indicators at the bottom guide players intuitively.
-
Typography & Colors: Rounded typography and warm colors, like oranges and yellows, keep the interface friendly and accessible for younger audiences, while clear labeling on each character card aids readability.
-
Interaction Elements: The game incorporates tangible interaction through toys, enhancing engagement by allowing kids to "play doctor" directly on the screen, blending physical toys with digital play for a hands-on experience.
